media consumption update, 'bad but good' films, procrastination as a lifestyle
π§ #onmymind
Procrastination is defined as: βthe action of delaying or postponing something.β Now if only it was that simple. I first learned about this as a concept in the fourth grade. I had a paper to write and for some reason I kept putting it off until the very last minute until I was left with no other option but to get writing. It wasnβt until later in life that I learned the βair-quoteβ βpositiveβ saying: βI work best under pressure.β
As an adult almost thirty years removed from Ms. Gordonβs fourth grade class, this is no longer a far away memory but a lifestyle. It consumes me in a healthy way so far and hopefully it remains under control as I juggle almost countless projects in real life and in my head at the same time. This holds true now as I always wait until the last minute to write these very newsletters.
Anything else would seem inauthentic to my haphazard personality. π

Episode 188: Women are lonely in the 90s. It's our new phase. | Gas Food Lodging (1992)
I love reviewing films that have been on my list for ages but haven't watched yet. This was such a great film that I took me way too long watch. Over the past few years this has become a theme, so much that I made (and will add to) another list on Letterboxd about films I was obsessed with on a late viewing.Β
This has now joined the ranks of that list. Gas Food Lodging, directed by Allison Anders is a great drama and coming of age film set in the Southwest. The performances by Fairuza Balk and Ione Skye need to be studied and talked about more. I get into the INCREDIBLE fashion that stemmed from the late 80s, why J. Mascis is great at composing a movie score, and how I loved the end of this story.
Off-topic rants include: fashion and music categorization and why you can think of me as the clerk behind the video rental counterΒ
βI'd kick you in the balls if you had any.β

Since doing the podcast over the last few years I think about films differently. Iβm an avid Letterboxd user and cataloging, rating, and give quirky one liner reviews are another dimension of my viewing experience.
One of my most recent categories is βbad but kinda goodβ movies. I know Iβ'll get a lot of flack for this and while some of your all time faves may be included on this list, it doesnβt mean I think any less of them. They just donβt deserve my hall of fame status, but are a fun watch nonetheless. In all honestly itβs just another procrastination tactic to keep me from things I should be doing *le sigh π

My current first time watch that is hitting is Preacher. One of my friends recommended it since he knows I like βweird wild shitβ and lets just say, heβs right. Iβm on episode 8 of season 1 and itβs already off the rails and apparently Iβm in for one hell of a ride.
my other passive watches/listens
RHOC (Peacock) (Iβm doing a rewatch of Orange County from the beginning and lord!)
Scandal (Hulu) (also another first time watch of mine, and geez the drama in this one!)
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (Hulu) Iβm only one episode in and I donβt even know what is going on yet but I hate these women but I canβt look away.
Podcast Bookmark: Woodstock β99 (Spotify) as most of you know this was a complete shit show but Iβm always curious to hear from insiders just how it devolved from the inside out.
