Yes, I know I’ve been a bad consistent newsletter writer. I tend to believe if there is nothing buzzing in my brain, then I don’t want to subject you to my stream of consciousness haha…
Since the last time we talked I had a birthday. Now, I usually don’t fuss too much about it but I did have a jam packed day and managed to have my fav Mexican food with my birthday twin/frequent collaborator, Jai.
oh yeah and I bought these shoes from my longgg wishlist on GOAT…

There are still so many things on my bucket list to accomplish but one small thing that I have never done is go to the movies solo. While it may seem trivial, it was one on my list. Enter in me going to see Challengers on my own on a Monday afternoon.
Now, I happen to be a big fan of Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All so I knew already when I saw the trailer months before that I wanted to see it. At the risk of it leaving the cinema I ventured out on a Monday afternoon solo. The experience itself I found a bit addictive, and I can definitely see myself making this a habit so keep a close watch on my Letterboxd in the future.
As for the film itself I thought it was well done. It had all the trappings of films made for the current equivalent of ‘Tumblr’. Incredible cinematography, costume design to be studied (thanks to Jonathan Anderson), and a bait-y erotic trailer to sell the film. I think I’m used to the films of the 90s and 00s that were more salacious in nature. We were basically raised in the era of the Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, and Nine and Half Weeks. They really leaned into the erotic part of the thriller genre in the past . Now almost every week I see another think piece about how Gen Z features less sex scenes in media and sometimes doesn’t see the point including it at all. I thought about that when viewing Challengers. Luca is a master at taking you all the way to the edge (pun intended) and pairing it with a score that conveys a similar visceral experience to leave you wanting that extra step. The performances between the three main principal cast added additional layers to the film that couldn’t be ignored. I enjoyed it. - 7.5/10 🍿

📺 You, Me and 5 Bucks 015: A chat w/ Kara Berry
Yet another time for me to exercise my reality tv brain and who better than Kara Berry?
I'm a superfan of her Bravo recaps each week on Everyone’s Business But Mine Podcast so I couldn't wait to find out where it all started. We get into Real World seasons being the lead in and where we fall now.
around 26:00 is the Bravo chat including RHOC being our gateway, forgotten Bravo shows we need released from the vault, thoughts on RHOA, Summer House, Vanderpump Rules, and why Kelly Cutrone needs to be on the new RHONY

🎙️ You, Me and 5 Bucks 016: A chat w/ Meghan Smith of Melody Note Vintage
It's time for another interview series! I've been a student of Meghan's through her insightful TikTok , and I knew that I had to talk to her about being in the epicenter of what became known as 'grunge' in Seattle in the late 80s/90s. We had a time and covered so much ground.
Some of the points we chat about include: indie record culture, the death of paper concert tickets, working the famous Nirvana in-store show, and moving to Palm Springs, CA and opening a vintage store. I found out what it's really like to go viral online, views on fashion TikTok and IG, sustainability in fashion, and cap it off with a Henry Rollins anecdote.
Enjoy! 🎸👖

🤖 Deep Cut: Flight of the Conchords Episode 1 (2007)
I couldn't wait to finally review one of my favorite off-beat quirky shows of the 2000s. Back in 2007 Flight of the Conchords came out of nowhere for us in the US and it really is a representation of that time in creative television. I had never seen anything like this series before with the dry humor, amazing comedy within songs, and a delight to watch each week.
Me and Jules basically giggle through this entire recap but it gave us so much joy to talk about. We get into why we need more shows like this on the air, how both seasons are hilarious from start to finish, and we both fight over how much we are OBSESSED with Jemaine.

⚔️ Look it up. Slayer, comma, The. | Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 Eps 9-12
Yeah you read that right. We're back with another block of Buffy Season 4 episodes 9-12. This is unfortunately the start of the official Riley era and we somehow made it through with snarky commentary.
Me and Mikey are breaking down our thoughts on the fashion in these episodes and why Willow is killing it, me having a deep attraction to Xander in his pizza delivery fit, and hate on Mommy Maggie Walsh and this whole weird Riley thing that isn't giving what the writers think it is. And oh yeah, Spike is literally the reason this season wasn't a complete crash and burn.

I always need to have something on my watch queue..I finished my Game of Thrones watch (🙄 they were right about the last season) and Shogun is over 😪.
This seemed like a good time to watch more films…
Let me know any other films I should be watching!
