📟 So precious, loving the thrill
my real y2k, emergency fashion podcast, current movie/tv watch queue

Since the culture has been on this y2k aesthetic thing, it had me wondering what I thought the future would be like after the year 2000. Aside from the real issue being that we thought computers would reset and return us all to our alien rulers, there was such a fear of the unknown. Technology was moving at a crazy pace that we thought changing the date would somehow bring on nuclear catastrophe? And culture responded…
We had this silver, moonscape, and minimal type of mood when thinking about the future. It felt like something completely crazy was on the other side when the year would begin with a ‘2’ all of a sudden. Turns out that wasn’t the case but it did bring a new ‘type’ of design in all areas. Interior, fashion, and even in terms of graphic design. It was a real symbiotic harmony with color palettes and a subculture that meshed.
Here is a pretty awesome TikTok I stumbled upon with more of the vaporware/y2k aesthetic breakdown:

Now, in high school I was all about listening to rock still as my mainstay, but I was started to get into the electronica that was popping up in the forms of raves and famous DJs like Sasha and Digweed spinning at clubs downtown. One music video that stands out to me that captures the vaporwave/ numetal and radio rock sound at the time, Stitches by Orgy. Released in 1999. If you didn't have a crush on Jay Gordon in High School I mean…

🎙️Episode 177: Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
Vroom! I’m here on another solo adventure to talk about one of my foundational films, Gone in 60 Seconds. For me this movie had it all. An incredible cast, LA streets, and the CARS!
For this episode I talk about my own history with loving cars, Angelina Jolie as Sway being the blueprint, and why Nic Cage will always reign supreme.
Off-topic rants: my thoughts on the recent Crow trailer, comparisons to The Fast and The Furious, nu-metal and the importance of a driving soundtrack

🪒 Deep Cut: In the bleak mid winter... | Peaky Blinders Episode 1 (2013)
Here we go...An introduction to the notorious clan known as the Peaky Blinders. While all over the world we are celebrating the work of Cillian Murphy, it only felt right to dive into one of his most legendary roles as Tommy Shelby.
I decided to recap and introduce the first episode for those who may have not seen it (what are you doing, go watch it immediately). Set in 1919 Birmingham, England we start after WWI to see what the Shelby family has been up to and how they continue their reign in Small Heath.
I get into this rich story that has historical origins, the subtlety of the action, and the character development that will inevitably stand the test of time.

As most of you know already, I’m a child of tv and movie culture. One of the benefits of being an only child is that I can spend hours (if not days) entertaining myself. That later lead to a deep and obsessive relationship with most media at an early age. That being said…this has been on my screen lately.
I’m deep into the world of Shōgun now. The first episode is a slow burn and lays out this story, but once it gets going it’s an intriguing tale that unfolds in 10 chapters. To say this is rich with history is a gross understatement. Based on a novel by James Clavell in 1975, it centers around Japan in 1600 before the Battle of Sekigahara. Lead by Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, each episode sees the action intensify and finds political factions in constant turmoil. Watch on FX/Hulu.
Another one of those classic films that has always been on my list is Chinatown from 1974. Seeing that at this point you could call me a cinefile, it’s a bit of a crime that I haven’t seen this yet. So, I’ve finally checked this off the list as of a few days ago..and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway is just perfect casting alone. I would have watched them do just about anything but a political murder mystery surrounding a 1930s Los Angeles was even better. The direction was interesting but what really drew me in was the jazz score by Jerry Goldsmith.
Go watch it..
